I was recently interviewed by lifestyle blogger Jennifer Mercera from Paperbeau - Had a blast connecting with this spirited lady and answering her questions:
TELL ME ABOUT YOUR CURRENT BUSINESS. WHAT ARE YOU DOING EXACTLY?
I run a coaching business called INTO THE WILD Coaching. INTO THE WILD Coaching is directed at people that feel stuck in life and long for change. So it’s all about exploring what is calling them, finding what it is they want in their lives, designing steps and creating the empowerment to take action. I work with clients over a period of three months and throughout this time I essentially help them make meaningful change, so they can transform their current reality into a refreshingly new, exciting and life-fueling one.
HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH YOUR BUSINESS IDEA?
It’s basically the kind of support I would have loved to have 2-3 years ago. At that time I had been working in a well-paid marketing job in Barcelona for years, lived in a nice apartment, had great friends and really, there wasn’t anything to complain about, it was all totally fine…and yet it was just FINE and far away from exciting, purposeful, high vibe or any of that. It had been at some point, but it felt like a shirt that I had outgrown. And yet- I was horrified to change. I started with little steps, exploring other neighbourhoods more, hanging out with new people, changing apartments, but deep down I knew that something much bigger needed to happen. It took me a lot of time, endless spinning-in-circle-conversations with friends and many sleepless nights before I finally, finally set myself free. I decided to take a break; left my job, gave up my beloved apartment, sold and gave away many things and put what was left in storage and went on an open-end trip to India. A scary move for me at the time. But never regretted it. India was where I finally got all this fresh input and inspiration that, I came to understand, I had been longing for. It was also the time I realized, I wanted to re-connect with my other profession and passion, coaching, again. And that I wanted to support others get out of their stuckness, make meaningful, likely scary, change, creating the life they desire.
WHAT WERE YOU DOING BEFORE THIS, AND IS THIS YOUR FIRST BUSINESS?
I was working in online marketing for a big international company. I had been trained and certified in coaching years before and was coaching on the side for a while but always whilst working in marketing full-time.
WHAT SPECIFIC ADVICE WOULD YOU HAVE FOR YOUNG WOMEN WHO WOULD LIKE TO BECOME AN ENTREPRENEUR?
Surround yourself with like-minded people. Hang out with people that have similar aspirations, find people that are already doing what you want to be doing and learn from them. Check meetup, facebook and other platforms to find interesting networking events in your area, especially the ones for female entrepreneurs where young women tend to find it easier to speak up than in mixed events.
MY GREATEST OBSTACLE AND HOW I DEALT WITH IT
My greatest obstacle was fear. Fear of leaving my well established, comfortable setup behind, fear of regretting it at a later point, fear of what others may have to say to it, etc. But I just got to a point where I knew I had the choice of either continuing on my path and becoming increasingly bitter or facing that fear and CHANGE. Coaching in every format, online courses, books on personal growth and 1:1 coaching was also of vital importance to me throughout that time.
MY PROUDEST ACCOMPLISHMENT
I’m super proud of all the inspiring people I got to speak to an interview during my time in India. Listening to all these different life stories that had that one big thing in common: Having brought up the courage to change something big along the way, was deeply moving to me. I shared these interviews via Facebook and Instagram and it was amazing to hear that their stories inspired many other people around the globe as well.
HOW I BLEND LIFE AND WORK TO CREATE THE LIFE I WANT:
I love coaching and it gives me a lot of energy, so it does not feel like „work“ work- which is great. Nevertheless, it’s important to define boundaries, like a time that I am off, not online, not working on my marketing, not coaching. As I coach my clients online, I can work from wherever I want as long as there’s a stable internet connection. This is a huge plus as I love travelling/nomading. But I also really enjoy connecting with people in person, so from time to time I hold coaching events in cities I visit, which is then always a great opportunity to get to know new fantastic people and hearing their stories.
I AM INSPIRED BY:
People that are joy- and playful, true to themselves and not afraid to live a life off the beaten path if that’s what’s calling them.
WHY I CHOSE THIS CAREER
I just felt very alive when coaching and thought this may be a good indicator that this could be my thing No, really: Being able to support others on their journey to a new and fully resonant reality brings me a lot of energy and joy. And being able to do so location-independently makes it be my absolute dream job.
HOW I PREPARE FOR SUCCESS
Being well myself. Taking good care of myself and keeping my frequency high doing things I love: being outside, connecting with nature, travelling, spending time with friends and family, socializing, cooking and enjoying good food, learning new things, finding inspiration…
DID YOU WRITE A BUSINESS PLAN? WAS IT AN EFFECTIVE TOOL FOR YOU?
No, I didn’t write one.
ARE THERE SPECIFIC ADVANTAGES, DISADVANTAGES TO BEING A WOMAN BUSINESS OWNER?
Generally, I am sure there are differences, advantages and disadvantages. In coaching, I haven’t felt those much though.
MY FAVOURITE BUSINESS TOOL IS…
I’m a big fan of zoom internet calls
THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE I HAVE EVER BEEN GIVEN IS…
“What other people think about you has nothing to do with you and everything to do with them and is none of your business”.
